Unix Tips and Tricks : Line numbers with cat command

Hi guys,

cat command comes with an ability to display line numbers of a file !!

Here is the how part :-

The cat command shall be used with the -n switch :) Lets see..


$ cat testfile.txt
mary had
a
little
lamb
who used
to drink like
me!!

$ cat -n testfile.txt
1 mary had
2 a
3 little
4 lamb
5 who used
6 to drink like
7 me!!
